RACE REPORT - WESTERN SPRINGS
That time of the year has come around again with the international events starting to take place at Western Springs. After a one week absence from the Springs, Sprintcars were back on the schedule with 11 cars turning up for the night.
Curiously number have been down on last years totals. Hopefully things will be picking up after the new year rolls over.
Warmup Warmup ran ok for Stevie. The track had a little moisture in it but it looked as though it was going to be a slick track.
Due to the nights format including two 'Super Six' events for Sprintcars (instead of a second heat), Stevie was only to get two races on the night.
Heat One Grid 8. Things didn't exactly go to plan in this one with Stevie quickly slipping to the rear of the field whilst trying to come to terms with the tracks now slick surface. It appeared as though grip levels were just not there and Stevie was to spin not once, but twice during the course of the race.
On lap two Phil Game spun his car and brought out the yellow. Stevie managed to spin at the other end of the circuit (Town Bend) whilst trying a high line during the flag period. Stevie managed to pull off a neat donut and carried on to take his position at the back of the field only to spin again with a few laps to go. Eventual finish 10th.

Feature By now the track had thick black lines of tyre rubber laid down on i, and the feature would prove to be a test of throttle control and car set up. Stevie was off grid 10. The race distance had been reduced from 20 laps to 12 as time was running out to complete the nights events.
At the start Stevie held position and kept out of trouble. The race was largely incident free with Phil Game being the only casualty (a suspected broken lower diff shaft). Stevie was to spin again, and do yet another donut, on lap 8 but resumed to carry on through to the finish. He eventually finished 10th.
The track had been very hard on tyres throughout the night, and indeed that was evident by the state of the track after the meeting (much of the surface now black from tyre rubber).
Th next meeting for Stevie and the crew is Boxing Day (26th Dec) at Western Springs. Stevie and the crew will be hoping for a better night!
See you there.
