STEVIE'S SAY WSS 21/12/2002

Hi Everyone,

Saturday morning came and it was race day!!

Car preparations went smooth, the only problem was we couldnt get the push bike to start. We eventually got it going at the track. That was a relief for the crew, as we weren't in our original pit space, so it would have been a longer push for the crew if they had to push the car by hand.

Warm-up went well, the track was very dry. I had a little chance to see what it was like and it had NO grip.

For the first race, I drew grid 8. Which was the outside line. I didnt want this grid, as the outside was very slick.

At the start, I put my foot down slowly and my car just slid to the wall. I had absolutely no grip. I played with the wing slider, but still nothing.

I changed my lines 4 times, but still nothing. I was wary of not driving on the grass, because I knew the chances of a fine would be high.

The race was fun as I was scraping with two other cars. At one stage I got a little too close to them, and spun. That was lap five. I set my fastest lap of the race on lap 8, where no-body was in front of me. I finished 10th in that race.

There was a BIG gap before the feature. My grid was grid 10. For this race track, I didn't want an outside grid. This was quite a hard race, because the track was really dry, slick and dusty. Due to budget reasons, we are still running last years tyres, which makes it quite difficult for me as the tyres have hardened up and dont provide much grip. A slick track makes it even worse. It was fun though, because the car is always sideways. It's not exactly the fastest way to drive!

After Kerry Brocas lapped me, I watched what line he was taking and it seemed to work.

Again I finished 10th.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and see you all on Boxing Day!!

STEViE
