STEVIE SAY - 1ST JUNE 2004

Here is the latest from Stevie,

Hi Everyone,

On Thursday night we decided to go racing at Jacksonville, Illinois. This was to enable us to stay eligible for the Brodix Tournament of Champions at Knoxville in August.

We left friday at 12pm. Jacksonville is a 6 hour drive, going through 3 states, Iowa, Missouri and Illinois. The trip to Jacksonville started badly. Thirty minutes from home we got a flat trailer tyre. We changed but had concerns over what would happen if we got another flat - we had used our only spare. In the end it all worked out ok and we made it to Jacksonville fine.

In the marble draw, I drew number 93, good enough for grid 7 in the last heat. We ran 5th. Only four transferred through to the A main so this meant I would run the B main instead. A bit disappointing.

We started the B 4th and finished 6th. Jacksonville is a very small track.

We managed to make it home at 4am. Just enough time for a quick sleep then back up to prepare the car for the night ahead at Knoxville.

I did a radio interview at Knoxville at 11am. The weather wasn't looking too good for racing.

The weather held out however and I started inside the front row on the last heat of the 360's.

There had been four 410 heats and three 360 heats before me. The track was slick. At the start of the heat, I slipped back to 4th initially, but managed to get back to 2nd.

The 'invert' would go our way and I started outside front row in the main. The track was slick and the cush was high. We were running 5th with 5 laps to go. I slipped a few places and fell to 7th - which is where I finished.

On Sunday, I got up to Bobs at 9am, ready to wash the car again and go racing at Columbus Junction. Unfortunately it was cancelled, so we watched the Indy 500 instead.....

Our next race is this Friday at Peoria, Illinois.
